On this date (24 April) in 1977, Clare shocked the hurling world by beating Kilkenny in the National League Final at Semple Stadium Thurles.

Clare captured their second league title ever and their first since 1945-46 in defeating Kilkenny. 

In this excerpt from the match Michael O’Hehir commentates on the two Clare goals, scored by Jimmy McNamara and Tom Crowe. The opening goal came from the Clare captain Jimmy McNamara after just 75 seconds of play to the delight of the Clare fans in attendance. 

The final score was  Clare 2-08 to Kilkenny 0-09.
