Clare 2.12 Offaly 2.15
Offaly defeated Clare in an U21 Challenge game played in Whitegate on Tuesday evening.
Clare were ahead 1-7 to 0-9 at the break after Martin Daly netted having been set up by Ian Galvin.
The Clare management, in experimental mode this early in the season, made eight changes at the break.
Clare were slow to settle on the resumption and a full strength Offaly side took full advantage with two early goals by Oisin Kelly ultimately proving the difference in the game.
To their credit Clare finished strongly with a well taken goal by Aron Shanagher and good points from Michael O'Malley and Fergus Killeen left a score in it as the clock ticked down. However, Offaly held on for a deserved win on the night.
Clare's next outing is a challenge game against Westmeath in Clareabbey on Friday (7.00 p.m.).
