Training gear acquired through funds raised by Club Clare Hurling Supporters was presented to members of the Clare Under 14 hurling development squad in Clarecastle on Sunday.
The Clare u14 hurling development squad have completed Phase 2 of their year. In Phase 1, approximately 100 boys were nominated by their clubs to attend trials, testing and coaching days between October and December 2016. Since early January, 75 boys all born in 2003 have been meeting every weekend at venues such as UL and Clarecastle GAA club. Over this period the boys have been exposed to County-type training and coaching, skills testing and an introduction to strength and conditioning.
The under 14 panel and management also fundraised on behalf of Club Clare Hurling Supporters by raising money through the Club Clare Scratch Card initiative.
Last weekend, they played matches against the Tipperary Under 14 development squads.
The squad is managed by Billy Murphy (O'Callaghan's Mills) and coaches include Anne McMahon (Kilmaley), Tom Guilfoyle (Clooney – Quin), Andy McMahon (Cratloe), Robbie Madden (O’Callaghans Mills), Brian Coffey (The Banner), Ollie Mescall (Inagh Kilnamona), Sean Smyth & Keith Molloy (Eire Og), John McKenna (Bodyke), Mark O’Donnell (St Breckans), Barry Keane (Wolfe Tones), Terence Chaplin (Sixmilebridge) and Colm Canning (Toomevara).
