Cork 3-11 Clare 1-8
Cork emerged victorious over Clare in an U21 Development Squad challenge match at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) on Saturday.
In freezing conditions, Clare played with a strong wind in the opening half and led at the break on a score of 1-8 to 1-5. Clare dominated the opening half and should have been further ahead having missed some good opportunities.
Jacob Loughnane scored Clare's only goal of the game while Kilmaley's Michael O'Malley notched up 0-4. Clare's other scorers were Michael O Shea 0-2, Darren Chaplin and Michael Moloney (0-1 each).
Clare made ten second half changes resting a number of players who are due to play college fixtures this week. They battled well but found few scoring opportunities as the wind strengthened considerably.
Clare trailed by only two points with only five minutes left when Broadford's Darren Chaplin was denied a clear penalty. Cork finished strongly with two late goals.
Ciaran Cooney, Conor O'Halloran, Liam O'Connor, Michael O'Malley, Michael Moloney, Darren Chaplin, Gavin Whyte and Michael O'Shea impressed for Clare.
All in all, the trip south proved a useful exercise for the Clare U21 Management who were without a number of players due to injury along with their Senior players who were involved in the opening fixture of the Allianz National Hurling League.
Manager John Carmody says the development squad players will continue be trialled over the coming weeks with a view to finalising the squad.
Club Clare will have footage fot he game in the coming days.
